In this new series of blogposts I will present you my favourite robots. The robots I will pick are not only developed by researchers, but will include as well projects by private persons. So let’s start with the first one!
Ganzbot – A robot reading tweets
The project is already quite old: it was posted in 2008 on the platform letsmakerobots.com by Jeremy Gillick (have a look here). The robot is built with two servos, ten LEDs and an Arduino Decima connected to a host computer and has a very funny purpose: It reads the latest Twitter status to you or any other message you send to the robot via command line. But I still did not mention the special feature! Additionally to reading the Twitter status, it can show different moods! You should have a look yourself:
The project was a joke to occupy the seat of one of the co-workers in Jeremy’s office while he was away to participate in a competition. The video shows the prototype of the bot while the final version includes a picture of the co-worker’s face. Fortunately, Jeremy provides a more detailed description of his project on letsmakerobots.com – so in case that you want to build your own version of the Ganzbot, you can get a lot of inspiration there!
